Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Margaret Connor was born about 1838 in England.
She married Frederick James Foster, a ferryman and miner, in 1857 in New South Wales and they had three children, one who died in infancy, before they sailed for New Zealand in the mid-1860s.
They spent some time on the Central Otago goldfields before settling in Cobden in the 1870s.
They had a further five children before Frederick died in Western Australia in 1887, what he was doing there is unclear.
Margaret signed the suffrage petition in Cobden where she died on 23 February 1912 – she is buried in the Karoro Cemetery.
Her obituary said she 'was well and favourably known throughout the West Coast'.
