Mary Kilmartin was married to Francis Kilmartin, Saddler, of North East Valley, Dunedin.
Mary and Francis had seven children in the years between 1874 – 1885: Edward Francis, Morris James, Mary Bridget, Francis Joseph, John Augustus, Margaret Ann, and Teresa Agnes. Mary and Francis lost two of their children during their lifetime: Edward died aged 11 years in 1885, and daughter Mary died suddenly in her sleep on 6 June 1909 while visiting friends in Oamaru.
The family had a villa built for them by local architect Thomas Bedford Cameron in 1882. The house was built in Opoho, a suburb in the North East Valley of Dunedin.
Mary died on 17 August 1912, aged 65. Francis died in 1938 aged 90.
