Mary McGuire was born about 1854.
She married John McGowan, a railway guard in 1879 and they had three daughters.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Macandrew Road, South Dunedin.
Mary died at her home on 21 May 1918 and John died in 1942 – they are both buried in the Southern Cemetery.
