Mary Ann Cameron was born about 1833 in Oban, Scotland.
She emigrated to Otago and she married Capt. William James Walker on 18 February 1864 in Dunedin.
They had seven children and when Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Macandrew Rd, South Dunedin and William was working as a moulder.
William died in 1899 and Mary died at her home on 2 July 1905 – they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
