Martha Bray Webber was born in 1842 in London, England – the daughter of John Webber and Martha Skinner.
She emigrated to Lyttleton in 1867 on the Lincoln and she married William Bishop Martin, a watchmaker, on 31 October 1872 at Dunedin.
They had six children and lived in Clyde and Alexandra before settling in Lawrence where Martha signed the suffrage petition.
William died at their home in 1903 and Martha died in Christchurch on 3 June 1920.
They are buried together in the Lawrence Cemetery.
