Margaret Allan was born about 1845 in Scotland. She married John Mason, an engine fitter, on 31 December 1874 in Lanarkshire, Scotland. They came to New Zealand in 1875 and had several children.
When she signed the suffrage petition Margaret was living with her family in Maitland St, Dunedin.
John died there in 1908 and Margaret died at her son’s house in North East Valley, Dunedin, on 7 April 1913. They are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
