Mary Ann Greek Lane was born in 1864 in New Zealand – the daughter of William Lane, an aerated water manufacturer, and Fanny Greek.
She married Peter Matthews, a draper, on 25 January 1888 at her parent’s house in Brown St, Dunedin.
They had eight children and, when Mary signed the suffrage petition, the family were living in Arthur St, Dunedin.
Peter died in 1929 & Mary died on 28 August 1948. They are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
