Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Sarah Robson was born in Whickham, Durham, England in 1838 – the daughter of Thomas Robson, a horse dealer, and Sarah Bailey.

She married John Wilson on 25 December 1858 in Newcastle upon Tyne and they had one son.

John died soon after their son Thomas was born and Sarah re-married on 25 June 1865 to William Stuart Maxwell, a joiner.

They had seven children which included twin sons who died soon after their birth before the family emigrated to Otago in 1880 on the Canterbury.

The year after their arrival Sarah’s son Thomas Wilson and their nine-year-old son Frederick both died within a few days of each other.

When Sarah signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Cargill Rd, South Dunedin.

She died on 17 November 1914 and William died in 1915, they are buried with their sons in the Southern Cemetery.

We are curious about where you got your info about the twin sons who died before the family emigrated. This was news to us. Can you help?
