Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Isabella Bennie Gray was born about 1848 in Ayrshire, Scotland - the daughter of Peter Gray, an ironstone miner, and Margaret Marr.

She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1875 on the “Invercargill” and they settled in Frankton, near Queenstown.

Isabella married John McCammon, an express proprietor, on 28 August 1888 at her brother’s home in Fairfield, near Dunedin.

They had two children and when Isabella signed the suffrage petition they were living in Ascotvale, North East Valley, Dunedin.

Isabella died at her home on 22 October 1903 and John died in 1918 – they are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
