Marion Mason was born about 1859 in Scotland – the daughter of William Mason, a drayman, and Janet Shields.
Shortly after her birth the family emigrated to Otago on the Pladda arriving in August 1860.
The family settled in Dunedin where Marion’s father died in 1863.
Marion married Donald/Daniel McEwan, a labourer, on 16 December 1878 and they had 10 children.
When Marion signed the suffrage petition her family was living in Elm Row.
Donald died in 1917 and Marion died on 11 April 1939, they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
