Mary McLean was born about 1812 in Scotland – the daughter of Charles McLean and Christina.
She married Donald McMillan, a tailor, on 24 March 1835 in Isle of Mull, Argyllshire.
Shortly after their marriage Mary and Donald sailed, with 40 other families, to set up the village of Kintra.
They had, at least six children, before Mary came to New Zealand in the 1860s, what happened to Donald is unclear.
Mary was living in Forth St, Dunedin when she signed the suffrage petition.
She died at her daughter’s home in Castle St on 21 July 1897 and is buried in the Northern Cemetery.
