Catherine McFarlane was born about 1843 in Scotland.
She married tailor, John Melville on 25 September 1868 in Dunedin.
They had eight children and when Catherine signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Maitland Street.
John died in 1909 and Catherine died on 14 December 1921 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
