Helen Martin Shaw was born in 1865 in Scotland – the daughter of George Shaw, a coal miner, & Margaret Nelson.
She emigrated to New Zealand & she married Richard Charles Meredith, a labourer, in 1885.
They had 9 children & when Helen signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Leith Street, Dunedin.
Two of their children died in the 1910’s & Richard died in 1926.
Helen died at her daughter’s home in Dunedin on March 17th 1941, she is buried with Richard in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
