Elizabeth Graham MacNeil was born on 30 January 1832 in Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland – the daughter of Robert MacNeil and Mary Hamilton.
She married Robert Miller on 30 April 1857 and they sailed for Victoria later that year on the Royal Charter.
They had three children in Victoria before they came to New Zealand about 1864.
They then had a further five children and they lived, at first, at Waitahuna in South Otago.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition the family were living in George St, Dunedin.
Robert died in 1904 and Elizabeth died at her daughter’s home on 4 June 1908 – they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
