Jane Dalziell was born about 1841 in Scotland.

She emigrated to New Zealand where she married Thomas Moodie on September 4th1863 in Dunedin.

They had two daughters before Thomas was drowned in 1867.

Thomas was Captain of the Vixen which capsized between Oamaru and Dunedin – the mate Benjamin Bristow also died.

A concert was held to raise funds for the two widows of the crew and they were presented with £20 each.

When Jane signed the suffrage petition she was living in Russell St, Dunedin.

She died on 9 July 1920 and is buried with one of her sons in the Southern Cemetery.
