Jessie Yeoman was born on 15 July 1866 in Cruden, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, the daughter of Benjamin Yeoman, a granite labourer, and Ann Shivas.
Jessie came to New Zealand with her family about 1872. She married Henry George Mortimer, a tram driver, in 1888. They had no children.
Henry died in Oamaru in 1940. Jessie died in Christchurch on 24 March 1960. They are buried together in the Oamaru Cemetery.
