Elizabeth Ellen Seed was born about 1849 in Kilkeel, County Down.
She emigrated to Otago in 1869 on the Edward P Bouverie and she married William Henry Murphy, a carter, on 26 July 1872 in Milton.
They had eight children - when Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition they were living in Milton and William was working as a coal merchant.
William died in 1907 and Elizabeth died at her home on 29 April 1924, they are buried in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.
