Sarah Ann Powell was born about 1861 – possibly in Australia.
She had a daughter in 1877 and she married Alexander Murray on 3 January 1877 in Greymouth.
Sarah and Alexander had two children before Alexander disappeared from the records in the late 1880s.
When Sarah signed the suffrage petition, she was living in Cobden.
In 1918 she moved to Dannevirke to be close to her son Walter.
She died on 29 May 1949 in Hamilton and she is buried in the Hamilton East Cemetery.
