Mrs N Scott was born Sarah Brenan c 1853 in Dublin, Ireland to Edward William Brenan and his wife Frances Carpenter.
Sarah came to New Zealand with her parents and siblings on the ship Ernestina at the age of 12 years, arriving on 12 February 1865.
Sarah Brenan married in 1873 to Nixon Scott at St Mary’s church, New Plymouth. Sarah was 21 years and Nixon 28 years. They were married by the Venerable Archdeacon Gorett. Sarah had been in New Plymouth 3 days (her usual residence was in Auckland) and Nixon 2 years. Nixon’s occupation was Constable Armed Constabulary. Sarah and Nixon had 10 children.
Nixon Scott was awarded the New Zealand War Medal.
Sarah signed the 1893 Women’s Suffrage Petition in Aratapu.
Nixon Scott in 1893 was a Constable in Aratapu, a timber-milling hub.
Sarah died on 11 June 1909 age 55 years in Auckland and is buried in Purewa cemetery, Block E/57/141.
Nixon died on 18 November 1921 age 77 years in Auckland and is buried in Purewa cemetery next to Sarah in Block E/57/140
