Mary McArthur was born about 1852 in Scotland, she married Archibald Neil in 1870 and they had a daughter in Glasgow in 1871.
They came to New Zealand in the 1870s and had four more children.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Grosvenor St, Kensington and Archibald was working as a traveller.
Mary died at her home on 7 June 1915 and Archibald died in 1924, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
