Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary Bullock was born in 1839 in Chippenham, Wiltshire – the daughter of John Bullock and Susan Morgan.

She married Robert Palmer, a boilermaker, on 20 August 1859 in Chippenham and they had five children before they emigrated to New Zealand in the 1870s.

They settled in Dunedin and when Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in High St, Maori Hill – her occupation was storekeeper.

Robert died in 1896 and Mary remarried on 3 August 1899 to widower Robert Boon Mason.

Robert Mason died in 1914 – he is buried with his first wife in the Southern Cemetery.

Mary died at her home on 19 October 1915 – she is buried with Robert Palmer in the Northern Cemetery.
