Sarah Anderson was born about 1838 in Scotland – the daughter of Charles Anderson, a sheep inspector, and Margaret Armstrong.
She came to New Zealand with her family and settled in Blenheim.
Sarah married postmaster Tom Palmer on 22 November 1860 in Blenheim.
They had nine children, at least two who died in infancy.
In 1868 they moved to Mataura where Sarah signed the suffrage petition.
Tom retired in 1902 and was granted a pension from the Post & Telegraph Department.
They moved to Dunedin where Tom died in 1918.
Sarah died in Timaru on 29 November 1931 – they are buried together in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin.
