Rebekah Williams was born in 1861 in Staffordshire, England – the daughter of John Williams and Roshannah Thompson.
She came to New Zealalnd in the early 1870s with her family and they settled in Southland.
Rebekah married William Brown in 1881 and they had 12 children.
When Rebekah signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Oraka near Colac Bay.
In 1913 William died when he was heating dynamite to use in removing tree stumps and the dynamite exploded.
Rebekah died at Timaru on 11 September 1928 – she is buried with William in the Orepuki Cemetery.
