Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Sarah Ann Wilkinson was born about 1845 and she married Thomas Redman, a blacksmith and miner, in New Zealand in 1869 although they appear to have had at least three children before they married.

They had a total of at least 12 children and when Sarah signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Blue Spur near Lawrence in Central Otago.

Sarah died in 1901 and Thomas died at their son’s home in Roxburgh in 1917, they are buried together in the Lawrence Cemetery.

Their daughter Alice also signed the petition (See 48 Alice Fleming)
