Sarah Elizabeth Shorey was born in 1863 in Plumstead, Kent – the daughter of Edmund Shorey, a joiner, and Elizabeth King.
She emigrated to Otago in 1883 on the British Queen and she worked as a machinist.
She married Charles Edward Rohloff, a tailor, on 15 March 1884 in Dunedin.
They moved to Greymouth where Sarah signed the suffrage petition and they had eight children.
The family later lived in Wellington before settling in Wanganui where Sarah died on 20 May 1922 and Charles died in 1945.
They are buried in the family grave in the Aramoho Cemetery, Whanganui.
