Sarah Cross was born in New Zealand in 1863 – the daughter of George Cross and Mary.
She married David Rose, a hairdresser, in 1885. They had 10 children, three of whom died in infancy.
When she signed the suffrage petition Sarah was living with her family in Brown St, Dunedin.
Sarah died at her home on 11 July 1939. She is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery with her daughter Violet. David died in 1951 and his ashes were interred in his family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
