Jane Tinnock was born about 1841 in Ardrossan, Ayrshire, Scotland – the daughter of John Tinnock, a quarrier, and Rachel Cochrane. (See 49 Mrs Tinnock)
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1860 on the Lady Egidia arriving in February 1861.
Jane married David Ross, a carpenter, on 23 August of the same year in Dunedin and they had eight children, two who died in infancy.
When she signed the suffrage petition Jane was living with her family in Castle St, Dunedin.
David died in 1896 and Jane died on 16 December 1911, they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
