Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jane Sneddon was born about 1855 in Scotland.

She emigrated to Otago in the mid-1870s and she married Robert Rutherford, a grocer, on 12 June 1877 in Dunedin.

They had three children and when Jane signed the suffrage petition they were living in Caversham.

Jane died at her home on 4 August 1926 and Robert died in 1942 – they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
