Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Ellen Nolan was born about 1844 in Ireland.

She emigrated to New Zealand, as did three of her siblings, and she married John Ryall, a contractor, in 1881.

They had two sons and when Ellen signed the suffrage petition they were living in Cargill Road, South Dunedin.

John died in 1915 and Ellen died on 31 July 1919 – they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
