Sarah Ball was born about 1831.

When she signed the suffrage petition Sarah was living in North Beach, Greymouth with her 'husband' Alfred Ball.

They do not appear to have married because Alfred’s former wife was still living.

Sarah died at her home on January 9th 1909. Her obituary said 'along with her husband she had experienced the vicissitudes of life, and a number of years ago met with a very painful accident, which no doubt somewhat accelerated her death'.

Alfred died in 1913 – they are buried together in the Karoro Cemetery.
