Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Elizabeth Guthrie Prentice was born on 15 February 1862 in Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland – the daughter of Alexander Prentice, a groom, and Marion Reid.

She emigrated to Otago with her family and she married Stewart Langlands Peters, a doctor, on 31 January 1890 at Mosgiel on the Taieri Plains.

They had two children and when Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition they were living in Mosgiel.

Stewart died at their home in Mosgiel in 1933 and Elizabeth died on 19 January 1949 in Dunedin.

They are both buried in the East Taieri Cemetery.
