Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Eleanor Elizabeth Burrell was born in 1851, in Cambridgeshire, England, the daughter of Thomas Burrell, a tailor, and Elizabeth Bond.

Eleanor emigrated to New Zealand. When she married Samuel Thomas Bolton on 13 December 1877, she had been working in Cromwell as a governess.

The couple settled in Rothesay, West Harbour, Dunedin. They had six children, one who died in infancy, and Samuel worked as a painter.

Eleanor died on 7 November 1902. Samuel re-married four years later and had another two children. He died in 1923 and is buried with Eleanor in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin.
