Sarah Jane Branigan was born about 1847 in County Tyrone, Ireland.
She emigrated to Canterbury in 1869 on the Caroline Coventry she married John Anderson Craigie, a printer, on 8 February 1872 in Timaru.
They had seven children, one who died in infancy, and when Sarah signed the suffrage petition the family was living in Timaru.
John died at their home in 1899 – he is buried in the Timaru Cemetery.
Sarah died in Napier on 18 May 1925 – she is buried in the Park Island Cemetery.
