Clara Mary Ann Benfell was born in 1863 in Surrey, England – the daughter of Nathaniel Benfell and Mary Ann Schofield. (See 93 Mrs Benfell)
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1873 on the Dover Castle and they settled in Dunedin.
Clara married Timothy James Schofield, a baker, in 1892 – they had no children.
When Clara signed the suffrage petition they were living in Hope Rd, North East Valley.
Timothy died in 1896 and Clara died on 16 October 1931, they are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
