Elizabeth/Elspeth Grant was born about 1839 in Fife, Scotland – the daughter of Arthur Grant and Robina Kerr.

She emigrated to Otago in 1858 on the “Three Bells” and she married George Sherriff, a butcher, in 1860.

They lived in Dunedin and had nine children.

George was declared insolvent in 1871, and again in 1889.

When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Tay St, Roslyn.

George died in 1917 – he is buried in the Sherriff family grave in the Northern Cemetery.

Elizabeth died on 22 August 1920 – she is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
