Violet Clarissa Brook was born in New Zealand in 1862 – the daughter of Henry Frederick Brook and Lucy Monk.
She married William Sinclair, an engine driver, on 27 January 1882 in Lawrence and they had eight children.
Violet signed the suffrage petition in Lawrence before the family moved to Christchurch in the late 1890s.
William died in 1930 in Christchurch and Violet died on 9 July 1946, they are buried together in the Sydenham Cemetery, Christchurch.
