Jane Halliday was born in 1871 in New Zealand – the daughter of John Halliday and Augusta Selina Henrietta Jelly.
She married Alexander Patterson Stiven, a carrier, on 27 April 1892 in the Cromwell Parish and when she signed the suffrage petition they were living at Blue Spur near Lawrence.
They had four children and spent most of their life in the Central Otago area.
Alexander died in 1926 in Dunedin and Jane died on 9 August 1949, they are buried together in the Lawrence Cemetery.
