Jessie Wood was born about 1850 in Scotland, she married David Anderson Swan in Edinburgh in 1870. The couple arrived in Canterbury on the Geraldine Paget in 1874 with their 2 young children John and Mary. They had a further 7 children in New Zealand.
Her husband David died on 17 October 1916 at their residence 13 Helena St and later in 1918 their youngest son, George, was killed in action in France, aged 24 years.
Jessie died on 19 January 1934 at her residence 25 Helena St, in her 87th year, she is buried beside her husband in the Dunedin Northern Cemetery.
