Olivia Ann was, according to her burial record, born about 1839 in Canada and she came to New Zealand about 1860.

Mrs Olivia Ann Black married Thomas Richards, a dairyman, on 20 November 1879 in Dunedin, they had no children.

When Olivia signed the suffrage petition they were living in Kelvin Grove, North East Valley.

In 1895 Olivia was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital with a broken leg caused when she was unloading milk cans from her cart and a can fell on her leg.

She died on 20 July 1923 and Thomas died in 1929, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
