Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Rachel Cochrane was born on 2 March 1815 in Dalmellington, Ayrshire, Scotland – the daughter of William Cochrane, a carter, and Catherine McDonald.
She married John Tinnock, a quarrier, on 20 February 1836 in Ayr.
They had five children before they emigrated to Otago in 1860 on the Lady Egida.
The family settled on the Otago Peninsula where they had a farm.
John died in 1872 and when Rachel signed the suffrage petition she was living, presumably with her daughter Jane, in Castle St, Dunedin. (See 49 Mrs Ross)
Rachel died at her daughter’s home on 8 December 1908. She is buried with John in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
