Flora Clark was born about 1856 in Scotland. She married Albert Edward Townsend, a carpenter for the NZR, on 6 November 1874 in North Otago.

They had three daughters and lived, at first, in Clinton in South Otago where Flora signed the suffrage petition.

In later life they retired to Dunedin where Albert died in 1922, he is buried with one of their daughters in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.

Flora died on 7 February 1932, she is buried with their other two daughters, also in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
