Lilly Ann Garvin was born about 1825 in Ireland – the daughter of John Garvin.

She married John Walker Troup, a merchant, on 10 July 1846 in County Cavan.

They had at least six children and came to New Zealand in the 1880s.

John died in 1889 and when Lilly signed the suffrage petition she was living in High St, Roslyn, Dunedin.

Lilly died on 1 March 1904 and is buried with John and their daughter in the Southern Cemetery.
