Margaret Henderson was born about 1849 in Linlithgowshire, Scotland - the daughter of Allan Henderson, a bricklayer, and Mary Glenn.
The family lived for a time in Tasmania before they came to New Zealand and settled in Dunedin.
Margaret married Coll Turner, a boilermaker, on 31 December 1869.
They had eight children, one who died in infancy and when Margaret signed the suffrage petition they were living in Opoho.
Coll died at their home in 1905 and Margaret died at her daughter’s home on 26 January 1928 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
