Julia Coakley was born in County Cork, Ireland about 1865.
She came to New Zealand where she married Walter Hannan, a machinist, in 1887.
They had five children and when Julia signed the suffrage petition they were living in Colac Bay.
They later moved to Milton then to Orepuki & then to Tuatapere.
Julia died there on 1 December 1939 and Walter died in 1941 – they are buried together in the in Invercargill Eastern Cemetery.
