Ellen/Helen Brown Campbell was born about 1853 in Scotland.
She came to New Zealand and married James Watson, a flour miller, on 8 November 1879 in North Otago.
They had five children and lived at first in Oamaru then in Waikaia where Helen signed the suffrage petition.
The family moved back to Oamaru in the late 1890s before retiring to Palmerston, north of Dunedin.
Helen died at her daughter’s home in Dunedin on 7 December 1913 and James died in 1940, they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
