Janet/Jeanie Hunter was born about 1834 in Scotland, she emigrated to New Zealand about 1880.

Janet married David Watt, a blacksmith and widower, in 1887 and when Janet signed the suffrage petition they were living in Cutten St, South Dunedin.

Janet died at her home on 2 April 1893, she is buried in the Southern Cemetery with David’s first wife.

David died in 1901 in Gisborne, he is buried in the Makaraka Cemetery.
