Abigail Ann Ashmore was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on 5 October 1843. She married Alonzo Wisdom, a carpenter, in 1867. A year later the couple left Halifax for New Zealand with their infant daughter Florence May and Alonzo’s father, Alonzo Wisdom Senior. Seven more children were born to the couple in New Zealand. Abigail died on 24 September 1914 in Greymouth.

Abigail Ann Ashmore was born about 1843 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
She married, carpenter, Alonzo Wisdom in 1867 and they had a daughter the following year.
Shortly after this they emigrated to New Zealand with Alonzo’s father and settled on the West Coast.
They had a further eight children, one who died in infancy, and when Abigail signed the suffrage petition they were living in Cobden.
Abigail died on 24 September 1914 and Alonzo died in 1922 – they are buried in the Cobden Cemetery.
