Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Elizabeth Ellis was born about 1849 in Lanarkshire, Scotland – the daughter of John Ellis, a blacksmith, and Isabella Meldrum.

Her mother died in 1856 and her father re-married in 1858 to Ellen Paton. (See 63 Mrs Ellis)

Elizabeth emigrated to Otago on the Silistria with her family in 1860 and they settled in Dunedin.

She married Alfred Davies Wragge, a stationmaster, in 1870 - they had seven children and lived for a time in Kurow.

Alfred was declared insolvent in 1883 and the family moved to Dunedin.

When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Young St, St Kilda, Dunedin.

Alfred died in 1913 and Elizabeth died on 31 August 1920, they are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
