Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Matilda Andrews was born about 1842 in England.

She emigrated to New Zealand about 1861 and married William Wright, a farmer, in 1864.

They had nine children and lived at Highcliff on the Otago Peninsula.

William died at their home in 1890 - Matilda was still living in Highcliff when she signed the suffrage petition but soon after she moved into Dunedin.

She died at her daughter’s home on 2 August 1920 and is buried with William in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
