Nelly Powell Gordon was born in 1867 in Dunedin, the daughter of Colin McKenzie Gordon, a clerk of the Supreme Court, and Susan McKissock.
When she signed the suffrage petition Nelly was living with her family was living in York Place, Dunedin. Her mother Susan also signed the petition.
She died on 23 February 1922 and is buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery, Dunedin.
